Ben's Symptoms

I would not want anyone with a young child with Canavan Disease to read this website and think that their child is going to be the same as Ben.

I think that Ben is quite severley affected with Canavan Disease and also it is not know, but suspected that he may have suffered additional brain damage during his birth.

Ben has the following symptoms:

• Severe spasticity of limbs
• Blindness
• Reflux and feeding problems from birth requiring tube feeding
• Constipation
• Large head size
• Very limited speech/communication
• Ingrowing toenails
• Sleeping difficulties
• Seizures
• Urine retention
• Piles/tears to bottom
